Mission: The Return
Location: USS Tokyo
Timeline: February 27, 2397

Lieutenant Yuvek had just begun plotting emergency positions when the Herald beam tore through the Tokyo's hull. The ship lurched violently, and before he could recover, the panel beside his station exploded in a shower of sparks and superheated plasma.

The blast caught his left arm and wrist, searing through his uniform. Pain shot through him - white-hot and immediate. He jerked back, his ridged skin blistered and blackened along his forearm.

"Damn it," he hissed, cradling his injured arm against his chest while his right hand remained on the functional helm controls.
The tactical display showed their situation - main power failing, massive hull breach, Herald cruiser positioning for the kill.

Captain Taiga's words echoed across the bridge: "It's been an honour to have been your captain."

This is it.

The bridge crew could only look on in what could perhaps be charitably described as a morbid stupor; no tears were shed, no words spoken, not even a prayer uttered for the families that would be left behind in their wake. It just seemed so unreal, that after everything the Tokyo had been through in its illustrious six years of service, that it was ending like this; floating, powerless, as a Herald Cruiser loomed over them and waited to deliver the killing blow. But just as some of them were beginning to accept their fate, a faint buzzing sound could be heard coming from the tactical console.

"Captain, I'm detecting approaching vessels." Pryana reported. Her skin colour changed to a happy purple. "They're Federation." She added.

Out of what seemed to be nowhere, three Armitage Class Starships, the same class as the Tokyo swooped in overhead. They were flanked by their Starfighters, sixty from each bringing an additional one hundred and eighty starfighters to the battlefield. The three ships and all of their fighters swept in over the Tokyo, their phasers blazing and torpedo launchers erupting.

The combined firepower of the three ships and their fighters illuminated the Tokyo's viewscreen as the orange phasers and white torpedoes met their mark. The Herald cruiser.

The Cruiser had no chance of surviving the assault. It exploded as the ships and Starfighters flew straight through it their shields shimmering.

Nezuko's station came alive with new data. She tapped out a verbal report. "Incoming hail from the Armitage class ship, Captain." Seeing the Captain give her a nod, she brought the transmission to the main viewscreen.

The viewscreen flickered to show the image of a woman, with short black hair and deep blue eyes. She stood on a bridge udenticle to the Tokyo's. "Sorry we're late Captain Aisaka!" She said an obvious English accent coming through. "I'm Captain Maple Shipman, of the Ark Royal. I've brought some backup with more on the way. I gather you already know Captain Nakamura?"

The screen split into three sections. Maple in the middle, Captain Yuri Nakamura on the left and another Captain on the right that Taiga didn't recognize. A tall slender man with short blonde hair, sharp blue eyes and a serious expression on his face.

"Nice to see you again Captain Aisaka. The Broadsword is here to assist you too." Yuri said simply.

The man on the right spoke next. He had a slight German accent, but it was softer than one would usually expect. "Captain Loid Forger of the Graf Zepplin. Straight out of spacedock, but we're here to help too."

Taiga smiled, that evened the numbers a little. "You said more are on the way?" She asked directing her question at Maple.

Maple nodded. "Aye Captain. The Kirishima is bringing another six ships we managed to pickup. They'll be here in thirty minutes if we can hold out that long. This is your field, what's the plan?"

"If you can spare and engineering personnel, we could use them. We took a pretty big hit. Our Starfighters are screening the retreat of the damaged ships evacuating civilians. Honestly, right now, the plan is to hold on until those extra ships get here." Taiga stated.

All three of the other Captains nodded. Taiga then look at each of them in turn. "If the Ark Royal and the Broadsword can cover the Tokyo. The Graf Zepplin can defend the evacuation of the starbase. Have your CAG's report to the Tokyo's CAG, her call sign is 'Snowflake'. She can co-ordinate all the Starfighters and go on the attack."

"Got you Captain." Maple said. Yuri and Loid nodded before the screen cut off.

Taiga looked around her bridge. "Get those systems back online! We're pushing these bastards back!" She ordered.

Nezuko nodded and resumed efforts to stabilize their systems.

Relief should have flooded through Jasad, but all he felt was the throbbing pain in his burned arm and a grim determination to stay at his post.

"Helm systems partially responsive," he reported, his right hand working across the controls while his left arm remained cradled against his chest. The burns sent waves of pain through him with every movement, but he forced himself to focus on the readouts.

One good arm. That's all I need to fly this ship. he thought as he made a minor adjustment to their attitude, using the minimal thruster control available to angle them for better shield coverage. The movement sent fresh pain through his burned wrist, but he didn't flinch.

"I can maintain station-keeping and limited defensive positioning," he continued, his voice tight with pain but steady. "Once engineering restores impulse power, I'll have us combat-ready." the Cardassian said.

Taiga pulled herself out of her chair and made her way to the helm. "Lieutenant, You're injured. You need to have that arm looked at." she said to him. "Get down to sickbay, and have someone patch it up." she told him.

"With respect, Captain," Lieutenant Yuvek replied tersely, his right hand not leaving the helm controls, "we're still in active combat with multiple Herald vessels engaging. I can fly with one hand."
He made another micro-adjustment to their position, compensating for drift as the Ark Royal and Broadsword maneuvered around them.

"Besides ma'am, Sickbay is overwhelmed with Denmark casualties," he continued, his voice clipped but professional. "A burn can wait. Commander Johnson and his team can't."

"I'm still functional, Captain," he added firmly.

"There's an emergency medical kit in the observation lounge," Taiga said indicating to the rear of the bridge to the door that led to the lounge. "At least get a dermal regenerator over that burn, even if its temporary. That's an order." She said firmly. "I'll handle the helm."

"Acknowledged, I'll make it quick, Captain," he said stiffly. Every instinct screaming at him to refuse. To stay at his post where he belonged during combat. But the Captain's tone left no room for argument.

He made one final adjustment to their positioning, ensuring the Tokyo was properly angled for defensive coverage, then reluctantly pushed himself up from the helm station. The movement sent fresh pain shooting through his burned arm.

Someone else flying my ship. In the middle of a battle. he said as he got up from the console and made his way towards the dermal regenerator. His neck ridges tensed visibly as he forced himself to turn toward the observation lounge, cradling his injured arm.

Taiga lowered herself into the helm seat, her fingers running over the console. The engines were damaged, and they were drifting a little. She wasn't a pilot, however she knew enough to keep the Tokyo stable until Jased returned.

Connor watched as the bridge still smelt of smoke. "All synced up with the other ships Captain. Looks like the Klingons has a change of plans, and are coming about. "

[Sickbay]

In Sickbay Talia had woken to find herself amongst the wounded. Last she remembered she was on the bridge, before the memory came flooding back of what had happened. Trying to move just caused her discomfort, so getting up was out of the question. Instead she looked around for the nearest person to answer her questions.

Miyafuji noticed the counsellor waking up, she moved to her side. In just a few seconds she had her medkit open on the biobed. "Hey there Talia." She said softly as she ran the tricorder wand over her rounded belly. "You're in sickbay. You took a hit to the head on the bridge." She informed her. She focused on her scans as the lights in sickbay began to fade from dim to bright and back again. "The baby is fine. No signs of injury or foetal stress," she assured her placing a hand on the counselors shoulder.

Talia was distracted by the dimming lights, emotions flooding her currently foggy senses. She caught a brief sense of something from Miyafuji. “What else? There’s something else, isn’t there?”

Yoshika nodded grimly. "You have an internal bleed. We can repair it, but for bow we've temporarily stabilized it." She explained. "Once we're not so busy, I'll ask Doctor Valentine to go through it with you. But for now, just rest."

Talia was alarmed at the sound of that, she knew how serious an internal bleed could be. “Just promise me, if anything happens you'll save my son.”

Yoshika froze. She glanced around the sickbay. It was chaos, and she could tell that the power was failing. Frankly she was amazed they had even lasted this long. She knew deep down that she couldn't promise that; and it hurt. They were in the middle of a battle and everyone in Starfleet knew that survival against a superior enemy was never guaranteed. Death comes for everyone eventually and it never discriminates or favors one over another. She smiled weakly at Talia and placed a single hand on the counsellors belly. "We'll do what we can Talia."

“Thank you” Talia nodded before relaxing back and closing her eyes. From now on her energy would go to saving her son, she just hoped Thomas would be back soon right now she needed him.

Nyx rubbed her hands together again as she entered the room where they'd stashed Talia as she'd come in, her hands already feeling raw from the sterilizer she'd used for who knew how many times today already. Her skin felt raw and dry, but now wasn't the time to complain about it. The smile on her face was forced although it came with such ease that it could be seen as factual and soothing, so long as one didn't look too deeply into her eyes. "All righty, what do we have here?" She took a glance at Talia as she asked the rhetorical question as her eyes darted to the screen that showed the counselor's vital signs.

Blood pressure was lower than it ought to be at 97 over 55, pulse high at 118, blood oxygen level was at 97% while respiration was at fifteen per minute. Clear signs of distress and after a very quick visual check that determined no bleeding externally, she had a partial answer at least. She made a 'gimme' motion for the tricorder that Yoshika had in her hand and made a rapid scan in the chest and abdomen and withheld the grimace she wanted to make. This could wait, but not long. No. It couldn't. "Yoshika, we're going to be performing a dorsal laparoscopic embolization. Going through the ventral aspect could compromise the pregnancy and presently a C-Section is out of the question until we can get this bleeding stopped and blood volume restored." As she spoke she turned around and prepped a hypospray as she considered the procedure they were about to do. Turning Talia on her side would increase the pressure on her heart, reducing the blood flow even further and putting a definite time limit on this operation. 'Twenty minutes, maximum.' She thought to herself. "Counselor, I'm going to put you under for a bit, but don't worry, everything is going to be A-OK.

Yoshika nodded in response. She stood ready to assist. She could sense the tension and urgency in the air, you didn't need to be a Betazoid for that.

[Starfighters]

With the additional reinforcements, Fubuki found she now had control of over two hundred Starfighters. She was used to commanding sixty, but this seemed unreal.

"Snowflake to all Starfighters. We're going to go on the offensive. Attack pattern Omega Six, we're going to focus on target, engage simultaneously and beat them with numbers." She ordered. "Sending you all attack targets now." She reached over to her communications screen and tapped in the first target, one of the Herald cruisers that was bearing down on the Starbase.

"Acknowledged Snowflake," Twin 2 called back. She brushed some of her blonde hair out of her face, which had come loose in the battle. She looked over at her brother who was sticking close to her port wing. They worked as a team, yet now this was more like a mini-fleet.

“Acknowledged Snowflake,” said Vyse. “Ducati Squadron, keep tight but flexible.” He knew the Twins had this in hand, but he liked to make sure they knew he had their back.

"Acknowledged, Snowflake," added Nozomi. "Targets received; maneuvering into position, over."

Each Starfighter fell into formation. They formed a tight 'wall' in space, a flying boundary charging at speed towards the Herald cruiser.

"Stay tight. Lock weapons!" Snowflake called out as the wall of Starfighters dashed towards the enemy. In her head she counted down, looking at her instruments to get as close as she dared before firing. 'tThree.... Two... One... Zero!'.

"Fire!"
